I finally decided on what I want to do...

Hi everyone,

I am writing to you today because I have finally decided on what I want to do in the financial industry. It took a month of talking to a variety of people both online and off, as well as reading CareerVault guides, reading this forum, and reading Mergers and Inquisitions. I want to run my logic by you guys to see what you think, and see if you have any recommendations for me.

I want to go into asset/investment management, and maybe a hedge fund if I can get that far. I decided on this because I love the process involved. I love technical work, and I absolutely am thrilled by the idea of having my own portfolio. I take immense pride in my work, and have been personally awarded in the military for the products that I deliver, and I feel like I could carry on that work ethic to the investment management world. I want to have a portfolio/investment idea/pitch that is so refined and meticulously studied that I would gladly pitch it to my fund manager or clients. I am willing to dig deep into numbers and look at both fundamental and technical analysis, and maybe even use analytical methods that are usually reserved for intelligence analysis in the military to portfolio management. It seems to me working in this sector is about 65% technical and 35% social, and I am more than willing to go with that.

So what do you think? Am I doing this for the right reasons? Or am I just ignorant and need to dig even deeper? I know every firm is different, and I can't really make any generalizations on what I would do, but this is the gist I've been getting.

Thanks for reading, and your opinion matters a lot to me!
