I'm qutting banking to do this

Somebody wrote this on a previous post

"get married senior year before graduation. 2 couples i no at yale did that and they are happy as shit. they both live in the burbs in central CT, they prolly pull in bout 100k per household (one is cop/teacher other is cop/lawyer and they all love their jobs. Im fucking quiting this 100 hour/week bullshit. Im movin to CT and becomin a cop."

thats about it, it aint gonna get higher, but then if both work and live in a avg area with not to high costs on a 100k joint they can have a good lifestyle. so dont knock it. I know people on less and are living a comfortably

i.e. in NYC cops start at I believe 29K

but they are suburbs in Long Island where a cop brings home a 100K salary.

To tell the truth I'd say you only need 60K for the household to live more or less comfortably.

The difference between a 60K income and a 150K income...is a bigger house and a better car.

no, my buddy up at West Hartford, Ct gets 50k base, full health/dental/life and pension after 20 yrs of 1/2 the highest years pay. i actully talked w/ him last night. 51K Base + 8K overtime is about 60K. assuming he stays on patrol his whole life he will make a pension of 30k after twenty years until he dies, pretty good. I got another yalie over at stamford, CT PD. He makes about 60K + 20 K overtime, he pulls in about 80/ yr

because being an accountant is boring. to be honest, ive always wanted to be a cop. i got into yale and decided to go IB b/c of the allure of money and power. its like the ivy league. everybody wants in, once ur there though, u realize it is nothing special.

that 50K is in CT, NYU workers get really underpaid...cops/firefighters/teachers they get some of the lowest salaries for their professions country wide

if you want to really make good money doing menial work, become a garbage man. Once you get in(its really competitive), they make about 100K per year...of course there is the downside of major injury(truck wedges you between itself and a car), and you go home smelling like garbage

Telling a girl she has junk in her trunk is definitely a turn-on for all girls, Rogue. I suggest you try it out with some girl immediately and tell us what she says. Just make sure you pick the skinniest, blondest one you can find. Extra points if her name is Ashley or Brittany.

I like women who have a figure. I'm not talking about fat girls (I don't like fat people, why they have to be fat?) at all, but like an athletic girl who has a figure.

fuck that, you guys are fuckers. how can you even equate police work and teaching with garbage collection? believe it or not, not everybody can or wants to be an investment banker. people value things differently. just b/c you're a pretentious assfuck banker, doesnt mean others have to.

Some thoughts on the above:

$100k is bullshit...lower middle class

Cop> Garbage man >teacher (in order of prestige/respect)

Garabage man> Cop >teacher (in order of salary)

Not everyone can or wants to be a banker, but as my dad used to say, "the world needs ditch-diggers, too".

how is a teacher a ditch digger. i work in IB, i know IB, and i also happen to know many people from college who went into "ditch digging" professions, people from yale, in ditch-digging professions, tell me sir, where did you go?

People who do not have the intelligence or drive to make something of themselves are ditch-diggers.

P.S. The guy who shines my shoes has personality, but that doesn't mean I respect him as a human being.

"how can you even equate police work and teaching with garbage collection?"

Police work = collecting society's garbage

Teaching = collecting parents' garbage

How am I the first person to point this out? In a number of senses, we are ALL garbage collectors. Especially psychologists... yikes.

Hey, anonymous guy? Are you saying you don't respect the guy who shines your shoes as a human being? The guy is providing a service to you -- even humbling himself a little to serve you. I could understand not respecting him as a wage-earner, as a driver of GNP, but he's still a h. sapiens, and still deserves at least that basic human respect, right?

I don't know about you, but I rely on lots of people to help me get through every day. Taxi drivers, black car drivers, food servers, food delivery people, line chefs, tailors, dry cleaners, doorman, the assistant who handles my expenses and travel, the guy who brings the mail, the guys who print and bind my books. I need these people, am grateful to them for their assistance, and very much respect them as human beings and as co-workers. I can't imagine what my life would be like if they didn't care about doing their jobs well.

Do ibanking in your twentys, get your MBA, fill your 401K, save up a mil for your retirement. Then when you turn 30-35, go teach at a local college. Get 50K, work 9 months out of the year,3 hours per day, in a stress free environment.

Hey Anonymous

Please provide for us the median U.S. income in 2005 (an estimate is fine) as well the the percentage of U.S. workers earning over 100k per year.

I could throw these figures out there now but this way there will be little disagreement by having you provide the data.

One thing your Dad must have forgotten to teach you is humility and respect for mankind.

1) I wipe my ass with 50K a year.

2) No I do not respect the shoe shiner as a human being.

3) Garabage man > teacher

4) It sounds like all of you are or will be ditch-diggers.

5) Mis Ind is fat.

A 100K is lower middle class and will not buy much.

100k would buy me:

10 weeks of vacation in St. Barts 3/4 of a decent car A year or so of mortgage payments Remodeling guesthouse

I would never work for such slave wages.

That's awesome, dude. I'm genuinely glad to hear that you're raking it in hand over fist. So why are you hanging out on a board for junior bankers, most of whom make between $100-250k? That's chump change for you. If I were you, I'd get off the computer and go eat at Per Se, then round it off with armagnac at Brandy Library. Don't talk to us losers anymore. You're better than that.

That is great that you have achieved such a wonderful lifestyle!

You sure sound self made as well. (haha)

You obviously do not understand the logic of answering the question.

Making the statement that 100k is lower middle class simply shows your ignorance to the world around you and your need to seek acceptance among your peers.

That's a pretty long shot, isn't it? I don't think I know a single girl in my analyst class who weighs over 155. Well, maybe one, but she was 6 feet tall.

At any rate, even if you were serious, 10k wouldn't be worth meeting you in real life to prove it.

Andrew, I said I was too short to be a model, and you need to be 5'9" or above to be a model. In the real world, I wouldn't call myself short at all... just not abnormally tall.

I really don't see how this is germane to any of these conversations, though. Why is everyone obsessed with my measurements? This board is about banking.

You're the one who proclaimed yourself "hot".

By definition a "hot" person is not fat. You are fat. That is the issue everyone has with you.

Revise your note. I'm surrounded by women that are 5'6 and taller (usually 5'9" or 5'10"). And for their height, 115 lbs is the max.

For someone of your limited stature, you need to really stay under 105 lbs. You can possibly let yourself go and fatten up to 107.5 lbs and get away with it, but that is the aboslute max.

It's been a pleasure educating everyone. Time to go make some money now.

Check this out.... [I bet you will]. You see that? She didn't say [I bet you would] because she knows that there is a mystical attraction between us that will eventually have an outcome of me rightfully servicing her.
