I just had one recently in the Menlo Park office.. (can't really comment on NY). The Menlo office is fairly laid back- a tie would be overkill- just beige slacks, blue jacket etc would be fine. Let the conversation take it's natural course- and see if you get a long with the guys they are all very genuine and laid back. Good luck man!

why, oh why would you not wear a tie? doesn't matter how laid back it is, the interview could be on the f*cking beach for all I care, interview = tie, end of story

I totally agree. When I interviewed for my PE internship I wore business casual, but that is because I was instructed by the MD not to be overdressed and he told me what he would be wearing so I just dressed a little better, lol. Honestly, most of the PE guys I have meet are really great guys, but I could imagine that they might not care to interview some junior in college and have him coming in wearing khakis and a polo. To me, if its worth showing up to the interview, its worth putting on a tie at the very least, if not a suit.

I occasionally wear shorts and tshirt and crocs (so do my MDs) but i usually wear a nice dress shirt and nice jeans and dress shoes. comfortable yet presentable.

good luck to you.
