I am in the process of doing similar in energy. I told them I would be happy with matching my current salary when, in reality, I'd have taken the front office role without even knowing what the salary/package contained given that it is my dream job.
HR will likely let the hiring manager know that you've pushed back on the offer - maybe something to consider.
Is it really hard to move from back office to front office??? (Originally Posted: 07/02/2007)
I hear different things from different people. Most of the people I met have told me that it is extremely hard to move from back office to front office.
I also hear that it isn't as hard as people make it to be. A friend of mine said one of her friend who was in back office at a BB transferred to S&T after two years. Is that possible?
If you get a job in back office, does this mean your chances of getting into IB or other areas are very slim? Or does it depends on the firm and your hard work? Please comment. Thanks.

just curious, what BO position were you and what FO position did you get?
Geez, I'd be surprised if you had any negotiating power given that you've won the employment equivalent of the lottery.
