jobs viz GPA tradeoff

Currently, I am a jr at a top-tier school. I've been interning (abt 15 hr/wk; started off freshman year with admin/data entry, did some settlements soph year, now doing occassional trading when working Asia hours) at a boutique HF in the city. Though not burdened with personal crises so far, my cumulative GPA is not the best it can be (major GPA much higher). Anyone have experience/ regarding how IB/HF HR weigh work experience viz gpa? Am also doing research assistance related to poli-sci. How likely are they to look at cumulative v. major gpa difference as an indicator of interest/motivation?
thnx!

to current bankers, how much hours per week in a part time job/internship would be "enough" to explain/make up for a low gpa(3.3-3.5)?

In other words, would working part time for 20-25 hours per week, be a good enough explanation for having the gpa stated above.

I realize this may depend on a number of things such as your school, the job, the interviewer etc but try and work with the information above. Thank you.

Working part-time never, in my opinion, makes up for a low gpa. Plenty of my friends did work-study at school and didnt have a huge problem maintaining a decent gpa. Also, compared to varsity athletes who travel during the weekends and practice (sometimes doing two-a-days), working 20-25 hours is not really that much. Thus, I wouldn't justify that. Someone else may disagree, but that's my personal (and recruiting team's) viewpoint.

That being said, 3.3 to 3.5 is not that low.

someguy1, maybe its the way I said it but thats not what I'm doing at all. I was just wondering how drastic the work experience-gpa tradeoff really was.
