For all of you who've been in banking for a couple of years, what do you remember the most about the recruitment process.

I remember back in 2006, after my campus interviews I was flown to the West Coast office of Citigroup to interview in their SF office.

All of the interviews were pretty standard but there was one interview that I will always remember. It was with a second year analyst, ****** ******, from Berkeley who made my 30 minutes the most uncomfortable half hour of my life.

He started off being nice and asking softer questions like what do I like to do. When I answered that I love sailing and that my family is part of an elite yacht club he got defensive. He then made snide comments that I don't deserve to be in banking because I'm only doing it because my family is wealthy and that I was lazy because I never had a real job besides internships. He went off on how he came from a poor family where none of his parents went to college yet he did which gave him a "strong work ethic" and because I didn't come from "poor" background meant that I was lazy.

After badgering me about my family, he started to have these nasty looks on his face like a creepy old man who looks like he wants to rape a high school cheerleader. I have nothing against gay people but I did not expect that kind of reaction in a job interview. The constant up and down stares were really creepy as he asked me questions about how I would maintain a social life with such harsh hours. After the interview was over, he offered me his business card and mentioned if I accepted the job we could go to Cal football games and drink at his former fraternity ************** because I mentioned that I liked sports.

The rest of the interviews were pretty "banking esque" but that one was just way too weird and thank god I got other offers otherwise I may have done Teach for America instead if it meant working with him.

That very encounter, which you describe as "gay", seems to have strongly affected you. Coming from a wealthy family, you kept the incident to yourself, as you were afraid daddy might find out - that couldn't be good for the family's reputation. What would the electorate think?

I believe the point of the post is:
"For all of you who've been in banking for a couple of years, what do you remember the most about the recruitment process."

well, SF would be a great place to kindle a relationship such as the one you mentioned. Sounds to me like you could have had a hell of a bromance with this fellow. Oh well, there are many more fish in the sea.

P.S. Please don't post useless info in an otherwise helpful forum.

I bet the OP is not in banking - if you were, you wouldn't give a shit about this. I could care less about the bad interviews I've had - and seriously, who mentions they are part of an elite yacht club - you sound like a dink and apparently humility doesn't matter where you work.
