LSE Student - Help!
Hello all,
I am an American doing a 1 year masters at the LSE right now. So, I am primarily looking at London recruiting but I will also do some apps for US locations. My main interests are equity research and investment management but I am trying to keep an open mind to other positions as well.
Any comments on format/content/whatever else regarding my resume is greatly appreciated. Be as critical as possible.

Thanks
resume looks pretty strong to me - especially if that first college is a decent one (and I'm guessing it is if you got into LSE with a 710). So long as you did okay on your SAT (like above 1450), I'd include that as well.
take off the restaurant gig and ms office.....
Thanks for the comments,
I have been considering dropping the restaurant gig, but some people have told me it is a good example of my leadership skills (I was a manager) and to leave it on even though it doesn't relate to finance. Anyone else have an opinion on this?
Come on guys, tear this thing apart! I need to start sending this baby out asap.
I have seen people at the Master's level put experience before education.
bump...
Bump!
Well, its been months now and still not much luck in the job hunt. Obviously, the majority of formal recruiting is over and things are looking a bit dim for me.
Here is the most recent version of my CV / resume: http://www.razume.com/documents/19312
Other than the poor job market, why is it such a struggle for me to land an interview? Is it something on my resume perhaps?
Once again, any comments appreciated.
It's hard because the economy is tough. Keep plugging!
I reviewed your resume and think it's spectacular! For some reason, I don't believe you should take off the restaurant gig. It seems like it displays leadership skills, but also your ability to do "Finance" in the real world. Plus it demonstrates hard core management skills.
Keep at it! Your resume is great!
have you been networking........
I've been trying to network, but I don't think it works quite as well over here in London (at least that is what I have heard and it seems to be at least somewhat true). I spent most of the Fall Term attending networking events and conferences instead of actually studying. Every time I get a business card I have tried to follow up with emails / phone calls but in the end they just refer me to HR or the online application form.
I'm going to start cold emailing smaller shops in the next few days... this is, after all, how I got my summer internship.
Ah, I see we have a couple of courses in common so I probably know you! But yeah good resume. You're not alone trust me, the LSE Master's placement has been particularly bad, I know so many of my classmates are struggling to find jobs. Ah well, best of luck!
my advice is to be flexible. lets just say Im in a very similar situation educationally speaking. I wouldnt just limit your search to London (unless youve got some incurable hard on for working in london). it will probably be easier to get a full time opp in the US, unless you have dual citizenship (which im guessing you dont). Ive found my undergrad alumni base to be equally if not more helpful for recruiting. Id use that as well
How did your job search turn out? I'm going to be in the same program starting in September. Where are you now?
