McKinsey internship...prior internship experience (P&G vs Disney)
Hi, I'm currently a sophomore at a top-tier school. I have two offers, from P&G customer business development (sales) and Walt Disney Industrial Engineering for this upcoming summer of 2013 (rising junior).
My ultimate goal is to go towards management consulting, and would like a McKinsey internship for the summer of 2013 (rising senior).
Which company/role (P&G vs. Disney) would look better and be more helpful in obtaining this internship and why so?
Thanks for your help!
Go with Disney.
Thanks for your reply, and I was wondering, any specific reason why you recommended Disney?
Both P&G and Disney are top-notch companies, so base your selection on the role and not on the differences between the companies.
A good number of people at MBB are engineers, which makes sense given the quantitative skill-set those guys tend to have. That type of experience is very useful in consulting, and these firms respect potential hires with that background. It's more relevant than the sales role (isn't that just marketing?). The P&G gig wouldn't hurt, but I think the engineering role would be better given you want to pursue consulting in the future.
Also, consider firms other thank McKinsey. The differences in exit opportunities / pay between a place like McKinsey and Bain/BCG are negligible at the lower levels. Things like 'fit' will have a far greater impact on your experience than some negligible difference in layman's prestige.
I would have to go with Disney assuming you're referring to the Imagineers group. They are quite a big deal at DIS, but I have heard some roles not being as interesting and/or being overworked. Not to familiar with P&G CBD but have friends that interned there and they all seem to be interested in marketing roles.
Lots of engineers at McK, far more than I expected. I'd go with Disney, preftige right there son.
And would there be any advantage in holding out for banks (most of them don't respond until january)? Thanks!
Disney would be a better choice for both banking or consulting
Disney
