Hi all--how bad would it be if I missed a couple days of training BC/ of a summer trip. The trip is all expenses paid--and lasts a set amount of days (so I can't really leave early).
Thanks,

It'll probably be pretty
It'll probably be pretty bad, not showing up for training? Especially if it is a non-essential trip (funeral, wedding where you are the bride/groom, etc)
haha, you want to skip
haha, you want to skip training for a vacation
training is useless, but you
training is useless, but you still have to show up. plus it let's you bond with your classmates. i am still in touch with many ppl from my first yr analysts even though we're a few levels higher now. i imagine we may one day be md's and still bsing with each other.
where is your all expenses trip to?
Most companies wont look
Most companies wont look upon this in a good way. You are wasting their time and money.
Also could be considered as poor dedication etc.
Plus, training is also
Plus, training is also probably the first time the staffers and more senior people meet the SAs, and I would think first impressions would count for something. Probably be bad for you if you aren't there to make a good impression or even worse, get called out for not being there.
Is this for your full-time
Is this for your full-time job or a summer analyst position?
What's your risk tolerance?
In this business, Training vs Vacation = Training wins
Unless you told them about this boondoggle in advance of receiving an offer and were clear that it would make you miss some training, you really shouldn't go. At the end of the day, it may or may not hurt you to miss a few days of training--it's a gamble. And if you're willing to gamble away your job before you've even started it, then that better be the best goddamn vacation ever. I and plenty of people I know have cancelled vacations the day before we left, simply for work reasons...believe me, this won't be the first time you'll have to make this decision.

It's for a full-time
It's for a full-time position (not sure if that's worse). I would be going to China for 7 days (July 7-14) and my training starts the 12th. So, what should I do? Cancel or get off to a bad start?
That's actually not an awful
That's actually not an awful situation. Ask to join three days late. They may be okay with this.
first day is just getting
first day is just getting your HR shit together, so if you can get that done ahead of time/later, then you really are only missing 1-2 days.
7 days all expense paid trip to china is pretty sweet, i'd def ask about joining a bit late.
Ask the HR guru, but be
Ask the HR guru, but be penitent. Seriously, I hope he/she says yes. That's really a cool trip. Let us know what they say.

I think it would be a lot
I think it would be a lot worse if it was for an internship. I doubt if it would be a problem, but I would clear it with HR and your supervisor first.
You think they care more
You think they care more about a 2 month SA, many of whom won't return, misssing training than a 2/3 year full time employee? Check yo' self fool.
There's a myriad of bullet-proof stories you can cook up to get out of 2 relatively inconsequential days. Just play your cards wisely, and you'll be home free.

I definitely think it would be worse if this was for an internship.
Given that intern training only lasts 5 days (compared to a month for full-time), missing 2 of those days would be very bad.
Also, as an intern, you are still trying to get a full-time offer, so it could hurt you a LOT more than a full-time analyst if you ask for vacation.

They will not be very
They will not be very impressed to say the least, just drop the trip. One chick from HR even told me I couldnt attend my own graduation and it would be looked unfavourably if I skipped the day (1st day of training admittedly). However they got back to me and said that was complete rubish later on.
I guess it would be
trip=cancelled. I guess
you can go to china another
