Apartments or condos or houses?
You'll love it. Sixth Street is wild. Tons of lofts near there.
God damn I'm so jealous, I'd take a pay cut to stay in Austin

I want to rent and looking at 2bdrs
Lakeway -- lake travis. not downtown but gorgeous ;D
I have family that live in Lakeway. Awesome place!!! Nothing beats a day on the lake during the summer.
Right on Riverside there is a complex called the Crescent. It's a good enough value for the area you'll be living in, and the complex is in top shape. Literally across the river from downtown and a short walk from the Lake Travis trails. With Austin's current growth situation, I would look for something that would minimize your time in a car. Views are nice, but not worth the extra 30-45 minutes you'll be stuck in the city's notorious traffic.
Downtown locations are also great options. You may have to look into a lease for these, however, because from what I have seen they are mostly condos. Still, you can get a surprisingly good value in this area because there is currently a glut of downtown high-rise living. About 4 high-rise buildings went up all at once and they're having trouble filling them up.
Another apartment chain to look at is the AMLI apartments. They have several locations around Austin--some in better areas than the rest.
Good call on the 2 bedroom....congrats again on landing a nice gig there. Looks like you'll be in the market for some nice wheels as well
False, i'm going to be a hebrew and take the car back i had from highschool until i decide to get a new car.
No meaningful input whatsoever other than to say that I am insanely jealous.
Where to live in Austin, Texas (Originally Posted: 04/05/2014)
Hey all,
So I recently accepted an internship position in Austin for the summer. I'll be there from the beginning of June to about the middle of August. I was hoping some of you guys might be able to give some recommendations on where to live for that time period. I'll be working in what is apparently North Austin from what I've been told, so obviously something that is relatively close to work / close to downtown where I could go for drinks / to hangout and such would be nice.
For now it is just me looking for my own place, but I'm definitely open to sharing with others and might know some people who could potentially want to join me. Pricing I'm also pretty open, but please try and keep any suggestions within a realistic range for the average person (I have no clue how much a decent place costs which is why I'm open).
Please let me know! :D
I would recommend the arboretum area. Any place on 360 would be nice too, but I've found most of those places to be a little pricey for 1 BRs. Round Rock / Pflugerville are also nice areas way north and you can find really cheap apartments up there, but that's like the suburbs so not many young people.
However, if you're just coming down for a summer internship, you may want to just sublease an apt in the north campus area of UT. You'll be close to downtown and will be near everyone your age.
Get to know the people in town. UT parties are epic.
