My resume. Have at it guys!
Hi guys,
I am a non-target junior with an internship lined up for this summer doing private banking at a BB.
However, I am interested in landing a sales & trading internship next year. Any suggestions on how I could tailor my resume better?
I really appreciate all of your feedback.
So that's you? http://www.cnbc.com/id/22149119
check the chronological order
The "projects" section is confusing, were those part of your internships, coursework, or just on your own?
Is your private banking internship in a large market where you'll be able to network with guys on the trading desks, or is it in AZ?
I guess you were wrong about CROX. You were bullish when it was around ~40. Now its trading at 18.
Lol. I just saw that. I wouldn't put the link on there. Just say Guest Correspondent, because regardless of your being right or wrong, you were on CNBC. Very unique. Your resume screams finance so that is good. GPA could be a little higher. Take out non relevant courses from your coursework Put project below work experience. Perhaps integrate your derivs pricing into experience as your second. Were those independent or part of a class?
Dont do 2 columns for skills and activities. looks bad. Put packages below programming
Also looks like too many sections. Consolidate. Put coursework under education as a bullet list of things, not its own section.
Education, Work Exp, Professional Development, Skills&Activities, should be the 4 sections.
Crocks what a joke, who wears those? Are you doing retail banking or PWM? I would remove philosophy. Your Clubs are way too many, cut some out. I would take out the CNBC bit, unless you want to be known as Crocks boy.
Founding Father? Graduating college in 2012 with a "Summer Analyst" job at Wells Fargo in 2008?
Raised $1mm and value companies with DCF/NPV/IRR valuations?
"Conducted financial statements"? (el oh el) Helped managed client trust accounts?
So in summary, your parents get you into a financial adviser branch during the summer before you become a freshman in college?
So much empty bullshits on your resume. Not looking good. Stick w/ S&T so no one will cream you over your thesis which is probably copy and pasted from Google.
Thanks guys. The CNBC story is funny.
I was told to make bullish statements by the producer that organized everything. Everything that I said was completely scripted, it is entertainment after all. No serious investor bases his/ her investment decisions on Fast Money or Cramer commentary. Remember this gem:
No person in their right mind would make bullish statements about Crocs, I don't even understand how they are still in business. I guess making a fool of myself was the tradeoff for being on national television.
In any case, the link is an attention grabber and has gotten me a ton of interviews.
TragicHero410: I like to order things by relevance instead of chronological order. But I agree that some people might prefer chronological order.
judowned: The projects were part of my coursework. financial management and econometrics, respectively.
PSH2: The internship is in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, I think the networking opportunities in Grosse Pointe are better than anything I can find in AZ.
Starwin: Good advice, I will cut out some of the irrelevant stuff. Although I may be "Crocs boy", I don't know too many people that were able to get on CNBC.
drnoeyedea: Great overall advice!
Thanks for all the input guys. I really appreciate it.
vitaminc: Thanks for your insight.
Next time that you try to discredit someone try to be a little more coherent.
" Stick w/ S&T so no one will cream you over your thesis which is probably copy and pasted from Google."
What does that even mean? So people in S&T won't cream me over my thesis whereas people in other industries will? I am not following your line of reasoning. Care to elaborate?
Your resume will get picked apart in interviews. It won't even pass round one at most firms due to gaping holes in your 'experience' bluff. Nothing wrong with being green. But if you are green and yet try to pretend to be something greater, it will fall very fast.
You need to be able to defend everything on your resume. I would guess most interviewers will call your bluff on the experiences by asking a few detailed questions on your 'summer analyst' job and probably one or two detailed questions on your 'thesis'.
It won't pass IBD or AM unless you have some strong networks.
TLDR answer: You bullshit way too much.
Now that's what I'm talking about, thanks vitaminc!
Wow, Hayek & Keynes... that would lead to a great conversation.
