Networking when already with a bank

Hey guys,

theoretical scenario: If you are already at a bank (summer analyst), how would you proceed with networking with people from other banks? Even though the hours are brutal, I imagine that you would have time to at least meet face to face during lunch/dinner hours or make a 20 min phone call without being killed.

How would you write the email? If you are at a bank you can't ask them to tell them about their IB experience, as you have experience yourself. Should one ask to speak about their experience with their particular company?

Also, if one was to find people who moved from one's bank to a PE or HF, how would one go about contacting them? Would it look weird to just send them an email and ask for their experience moving from company XYZ to the PE?

Thanks
