Next Best Move: Real Estate to Finance
I'm a junior majoring in finance with experience in real estate project management. At my previous internships I assisted with cost analysis, contracting procurement and on site due diligence. The work was enjoyable, but I am more inclined towards investment banking or corporate finance rather than real estate development.
I have been networking with boutiques and have some interviews lined up, but I have a definite offer from a name brand PWM shop (think JPM, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch). Obviously IB is competitive to break into and for that reason I have decided that I need a backup plan if banking does not pan out, and I am not interested in PWM or real estate. I am going to give a 100% effort into getting an IB position for the summer, but if I don't get an IB role, I need to find another internship in another industry. Graduating without a job offer is not acceptable.
My most desirable career outside of banking is corporate finance--specifically in a FLDP position. For the reasons mentioned and given my background--would a name brand PWM internship make me competitive for a FLDP type of a corporate finance role or should I be hunting for a more relevant internship for the summer?
