Noble Group: industry rep and other info?
anyone know anything about these guys? i'm going to a career event next week hosted by them.
it's a bit odd that they're commodity and energy traders but based out of hong kong.
anyways, would like to hear about their industry rep.
I don't get your point about them being "based out of HK".
As a matter of fact, they have 4 regional offices globally - Connecticut, Lausanne, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Singapore is their Asia-Pac hub for energy/chemicals/softs, while HK is the hub for metals primarily. There isn't much of an issue there.
As a matter of fact, there're quite a number of BB firms who still have commodity operations in HK (primarily catering to metals there as most of the energy business is conducted out of Singapore for obvious reasons), although quite a number of them are in the process of integrating the commodities platform by relocating their remaining commodities business in Asia from HK to Singapore.
Noble is one of the very top dogs in commodity trading.
they are in houston as well
i have to choose between going to their presentation vs. BarCap because of scheduling overlaps at my school.
which one should i attend if my interest is mostly commodities sales/trading? i mean barcap is a power house, but noble is more of a specialist...
Go to both. make it happen
lol unfortunately i can't pull that off. they're at opposite ends of the school and the time overlaps so i don't want to show up at the noble group presentation half way thru and say i'm late because i was at a barcap event.
hey if you get an offer from noble group trader trainee vs barcap singapore fx trading, which one would you choose?
trader trainee doing what and which office?
u will probably get a higher starting salary at barcap.
what are the exit ops like for noble?
i'd like to know the answer to this question too.
Not too hard to make both happen.
This is what I'd do... Go to beginning half of the Noble Group presentation. Arrive early and try to network with people the few minutes before it officially starts, stating that you will have to leave in 30-40 minutes. Barclay's presentation is probably the typical "boring-introduction-presentation" then networking session. The only important part is the networking session, believe me. So go to the latter half of that. No one really asks why you were late, and if they do, no one will be that angry... especially if you state your interest is in commodities.
big commodities house based in HK. great company.
How much do the noble group pay during training program ?
^60k-ish?

Solid commodity trading shop but extremely competitive to survive/thrive. A while back they paid a percentage of bonuses in stock which help catalyze talent to jump to HETCO, hedge funds and other shops.
It's not. Richard Lehman started Noble doing coal into China. HK was a natural base.
Noble would be a great starting spot. They're one of the biggest commodity traders around and have a lot of smart people.
Don't worry about exit opps when you're working in commodity trading. Work on knowing the markets better in order to become a great trader and you'll never need to do anything else.

Profitable traders seem to make money cause they have some kind of edge.
I have an interview coming up with NobleGroup for a trader postion. http://www.thisisnoble.com/
They control complete supply chain of commodities ranging from ags to energy etc. Their traders work with derivatives (future forwards options). What 'edge' would these guys have?
superior pricing knowledge/information due to their involvement in actual storage mining harvesting etc? Anyone know anything about their trading arm?
It seemed from my conversations with them that they do more then just hedge risk
