Point72 Good Place to Work?
Just saw a Point72 SA recruiting post on my school's job portal. I know SAC was in some hot water back in 2014 and was wondering if Point72 has managed to restore its brand as a top hedge fund to work at. Thanks!

why do you need a brand when your boss has 10B ? joke aside, also interested in this. What asset class is their forte ?
In a presentation they said they have long/short, macro, quant, and private equity teams. Obviously significant majority is going to be in long/short and I doubt they'd hire out of undergrad for the other teams.
They're long/short. Pretty prestigious summer academy program but apparently they cut half the class every year.
can anyone confirm if they cut that many kids?
Even if it were true, things could have changed since 2016. It's been half a decade.
If the option is available, you're way better off interning in the S&T program at a BB. Heard pretty bad things from friends interning in the "academy" program.
Could you share some stuff in specific if possible?
Echoing above, they did cut half the summer class. Avoid. Probably better to lateral in after a two year stint elsewhere.
Know from a friend in the most recent class that return offer was 70%
Pretty good place to work as a full-time. Casual working environment with tons of resources to work with i.e with Point72 brand name you can sit down with any sell-side analyst and corporate meeting. Mentorship is great from what i know as they are trying to develop "home-grown" PM. You get a "small" portfolio to trade with as a cut from your senior PM quite early on. They hire pp from various background but most of them have BB IB intern or fund intern in their CVs. All above info are from one of their office outside the US.
Yeah I think I heard somewhere they are opening up to outside investors in like '17/''18, somewhere in there. Have a buddy who just went over to their "Idea lab". Sounds like they are incubating trading strategies in more of a start-up environment and then shipping the stuff that works over to the mothership. Kinda interesting concept...
Buddy of mine did the Summer Academy 2 years ago, it screwed him over. They didn't get extended a FT offer and when they tried to find jobs outside it was near impossible. No bank would take him since they knew he didn't get a FT offer from the firm. On the other side of the coin...if you get a FT offer you're set for life.
can echo this - very similar thing happened to a friend. I heard it's a complete shitshow - would not touch with a 20 ft pole. Again, play it safe early on and go to BBIB or even S&T.
ha, i hate L/S. they don't touch debt ?
I have heard mixed reviews in regards to their academy program, safer bet is to do IB first and then transition if you want to.
bump....anyone heard back from Point 72 yet?
have a first round in a few hours...have you had a superday yet?
Anyone go through the written assessment or the 20 minute recorded interview? Any insight on the questions/structure would be much appreciated.
While they are mainly a traditional shop, they've been pushing quant strategies a lot more. I have friends who interviewed for quant software and at the on-site they talked about how they're trying hard to expand their quant group. Apparently a lot of ex-strats guys are there, so it may be worth going into if you're doing quant/software work.
Does anyone know whether it is still the case that only few of the interns receive a return offer? The academy sounds very interesting
Don't know the exact percentage, but it's certainly not higher than 70% (was a SA there myself). Estimating around 50% were cut.
Last summer offer rate was 60% for US
Retention for FT is very high though if you get the offer, far higher than analysts at P72 that didn't go through the academy
I know from a few people who were there in Summer Academy 2021 that return offer rates were around 75% this year. Keep in mind that they like to take a few people with non-finance(STEM research, military etc.) backgrounds each year, so should be better if you have finance experience.
Not as good as RBC
Seems like an ok place to work from the little I know about it right now
