Is anybody currently working in the General Motors Building? (the big ass tower right behind the Apple store at 59th & 5th Ave) If so, would you mind PM'ing me? I have a few questions regarding leasing and the firms that have space in there right now. Also, and perhaps a much easier question, anybody know if there is a gym in the building? Not expecting much of a response but if you have any info or work in the building that would be really helpful.

weil gotshal's probably the
weil gotshal's probably the biggest relevant company headquartered there so best bet is probably to ask a contact there if you have one
other names that come to mind are icahn, york, perry, perella, maverick, sequoia fund, jordan company, jana partners, etc.
no clue about gym though, only familiar with building because my old firm used to work with weil a lot
Any idea how often space
Any idea how often space becomes available in there? I know the rent/sq ft is unreal and Icahn just signed at like $178/sq ft near the top of the building, so if it's that bad I'd think some of the lesser names in there (I know there's a few smaller places that might not be able to afford to be there anymore) Turnover has been historically low though which isn't good news.

The GM Building?? Gross. 9
The GM Building?? Gross. 9 West or bust
Just saying...
Actually the Apple Store is
Actually the Apple Store is part of the GM building. Space rarely becomes available. If it does, expect it to be at a premium on any other building in Manhattan. Estée Lauder is a big tenant also, but their lease still has several years to go. Having a gym might depend on the tenant. I don't know if there is a common one.
The building is managed by Boston Properties. They are a listed company (BXP) so it might make sense to check their filings/press releases. They also own a lot of other grade A buildings, although there is only one GM Building so don't expect to be able to get a cheap deal on the GM even if a few tenants leave to "normal" grade A buildings.
9 West is almost half empty even though it is one of New York's best buildings... do you really want a landlord like that?
