Rothschild GFA FT Analyst Interview
Hi - I just graduated from a non-target college this past May and am currently working in MO at a buy-side shop. Through my contacts at the current firm, my resume was sent to Rothschild and I was contacted by HR to come in next week for interviews for the analyst position in their Global Financial Advisory Group. I am wondering if anyone here has experience interviewing with Rothschild and cares to share. What kind of questions should I expect from them? I heard their interviews are generally more technical than the average. What topics should I be aware of? I have been studying from the Vault interview guide, but do you think it is enough? What else (besides studying from the Vault guide) should I do to prepare for this interview? I'm sorry for asking so many questions all at once, but I really want this job (have networked my a** off for the interview) and don't want to screw it up... Thanks guys!
Had a SA superday there. 4 interviews. Fairly technical. The MD one was purely fit. I recall one guy asked me about which valuation methods were best for an O&G company. I think somebody asked how I would model out an LBO, but I might be getting that confused with another superday. Doubt you'll get those exact questions unless you have the same people, but definitely know your valuation and accounting.
Thanks dude. Can I ask what you did to prepare for these technical questions? ( in term of guides, books, etc.)
The Vault guide will definitely not prepare you. In fact, I think a lot of the Vault material is pretty terrible and I suggest you never use it for any purpose.
You will have to be comfortable with both the exact technical formulas, etc., as well as (importantly) the logic and meaning behind all of the technical tools. Why would you use one valuation methodology over another? If you are using one particular methodology, why do you add or subtract a certain figure? If a company wanted to do a particular transaction or was in a particular situation, how would you assess their options? What would make a good pitch for certain types of transactions? Why would someone hire Rothschild over any other firm?
I'd been through a lot at that point. I had the Wall Street Oasis guides, Breaking into Wall St guides, M&I guides, and had been thru Wall St Prep and Breaking Into Wall St models packages. Also had a few summers of PE and HF under my belt at that point...
Of everything I went though, I'd recommend WSO guides for interview questions and Wall St Prep for modeling experience (they're the most technical). Reading 'Investment Banking' by Pearl and Rosenbaum is also good.
My buddy has WSO guide but it's an early version (way back to 2009). How different is it from the latest one? With less than a week to prepare, I don't think I have enough time for the Wall St Prep course, but thanks for your suggestion bud!
Make sure you look the part. Very conservative dress, and wear specs if you've got em.
