saying you have a verbal informal offer
I just finished my SA stint, and we don't officially receive our decision letters for another 2-3 weeks (stupid policy I know).
On my last day, I my staffer gave me my end of summer review, said I did a phenomenal job with a great attitude, said everyone in the group liked me and that I'd make a great addition.
He said that there was a very high chance of my getting an offer, and that I had top remarks from the two senior guys I worked with. He then started to try and basically sell me on the group/bank or whatever, which I assumed was a good sign.
Going on the advice of an analyst friend, I sort of assumed this was a verbal informal offer, and mentioned it to a few alumni/contacts.
Looking back now, I'm not sure if this is bordering on being misleading, as I talk to other banks or friends. Looking for any advice I can get...
Don't assume. You don't have an offer unless it is in writing.
And in the current market... you may not have a job even if it IS in writing... Never know what will happen between now and your start date. If you are just talking to alumni tell them what they told you, let them make the decision for themselves.

....is like saying, "hey, i am full of shit, hire me..."
That said, if you self-deceived yourself (and they don't think you are a fool for it), there's nothing wrong with it. Relax. Wait a couple weeks. Go to the beaches of miami and have a mojito for me. Whatever will happen, will happen...
Thanks guys...this is what I thought, and I now I feel like a bit of an idiot (only told a few people this), especially having to reexplain to a few guys..
Now go have that mojito for me.
