Jeesus. That makes my resume look like crap. I've got the in-person interview for S&T coming up on the 24th.
I applied for corporate finance, nov 1st deadline. I did the phone and in-person interviews already in december. I haven't heard from them since....
They are generally really hard on sophomores. I can imagine, in this current job market, nearly no sophomores gaining acceptance into SEO's program - 4.0 Ivy or not.

Yes, SEO does suck at making decisions. I personally feel that far less qualified people were granted positions (people with no experience whatsoever with a 3.4-3.5 GPA and terrible SAT scores). Well, I'm Indian so I guess that works against me.
"I personally feel that far less qualified people were granted positions"
Don't be biased. Those "far less qualified" individuals were probably way better looking than you or other "qualified" candidate. And let's face it, who do you think SEO wants to present to the firm... the tall blond Brazilian beauty from a non-target or the short Mexican homie from Texas who got in at Yale because of AA? Let's be real, no one is expecting SEO kids to contribute, they might at least look good; in other words, pleasant and "far less qualified" is much better than not-pleasant and "qualified".
The thing that sucks about SEO's lack of foresight is that the Brazilian beauty couldn't get a Visa sponsorship in the end... just ask the homies at JPM IB. But someone had a fun summer...
I don't know what kind of disease-infected trannies you've been kickin with, phil monk, but real Brazilian chicks ain't blonde (at least, not the hot ones a la Adriana Lima, Daniella Sarahyba, Juliana Martins, et al).
I've worked with 2 SEO kids. One was the best analyst the group had ever had. She was an absolute legend, and when she left, my desk of 20 people had a noticeable dropoff in productivity. The other SEO kid was a complete joke who could barely speak English. Not sure what conclusions one can draw, but I know that all SEO kids are not bad analysts.
Also, there are hot blonde brazilians.
anewleaf: Clearly you haven't been to Brazil or worked at JPM ignorant ass.
At any rate, I am sure you check your sports illustrated swimsuit ed. yearly so you should know better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gisele_B%C3%BCndchen ????????

You should be used to being held to a higher standard by now. Being an Asian and a male is pretty much the worst race/gender combination you can be born into. There's nothing you can do besides being cognizant about it and knowing you just have to work that much harder.
For all the crap people on the website are giving SEO, has anyone heard of someone getting an offer this year from SEO? It seems like they just waitlisting kids, overqualified or not.
At my school and others recruiters are talking about a reduction in the intern classes of 15% so it really doesnt translate to the lack of offers given by SEO...AA is not the reason OP.
Yeah...about that joke...don't use it again.
Funny is not your thing.
I just found out I was waitlisted. The decision status is on the application webpage. I won't find out until March 22nd. Another two months of waiting.... ugh.
I applied first round, interviewed in November, and found out I was waitlisted in January. I got a call yesterday evening saying they were going to extend me an offer! So, it is possible to get an offer from them this year!! I'm almost definitely going to accept it once they send it to me..
FYI.. I'm Asian and go to a nontarget (I go to Hopkins) with a 3.91 GPA. I interned at Merrill last summer in PWM and I got into SEO's Corp Finance program!!
You SEO kids should have done better in school so you don't have to rely on a program to get you the job you want. Plus if you got in with SEO, you wont get very far...there is something called Meritocracy.
Yeah from talking with my advisor SEO is looked down upon. Meg with good stats and good school why didn't you go through the traditional route?
SEO does get a bad wrap from some, but let's not act like getting a Wall Street job has ever been a complete meritocracy. There are so many ways to get one via "networking" and programs such as these which are devoid of strictly what you have accomplished. SEO just happens to be the most high profiled way.
If you want a job on Wall Street, get it however the fuck you can, especially in this market where not a damn thing is guaranteed regardless of background.
And no I'm not in SEO; I got in the "traditional" way.
I actually didn't accept my offer yet, i have a superday with morgan stanley next week (which is my top choice) so i'm PRAYING that i get an offer from that. but if not, i'm just going to accept SEO's offer.. i can't be too picky especially in a market like this.
i did apply to a lot of banks the traditional way, but hopkins is considered a non-target for all bb's. i had a first round with goldman, ms and macquarie but haven't heard back from anyone else yet.
Funny enough I have a friend with a 3.85 at a target, solid resume, great personality he didn't get SEO but he got offers from about 6 places and is headed to GS.
The program has some extremely talented kids and then some who don't appreciate the chance they've got
So why not have SEO-type programs for doctors, surgeons, civil engineers..etc. I am sure people would be thrilled to get a surgery from a doctor who got his job due to "special opportunities". Ya I didn't think so. Or how about driving roads designed by engineers who had "diversity opportunities".
What a sack of shit.
These programs exist, genius.
