Shaq Has Become A Titan Of Business
Recently saw that Shaq apparently earned his doctoral degree from Barry University.
The article also mentioned that he was a "business mogul". I found the below:
Today, he told the crowd, he owns 40 24-Hour Fitness clubs, 155 Five Guys restaurants, a jewelry and clothing line, nightclubs, and more.

I don't have the original link anymore, which was more recent than 2013.
Pretty impressive, looks like he is on of the few athletes who actually put their money to good use!?
...and yet he still finds time to apply for police jobs...

What an idiot.
Accomplished more than you ever will though.
If putting a ball in a hoop is a great accomplishment, sure. Buying gyms and restaurants, isn't the best move given his situation and assets. Or at least, not the best move available to him, and if he ends up making a few more free-throws it won't change that fact.
That's nothing. Magic Johnson cured aids.
that's only cuz he doesn't trust banks and sleeps w/ all his money
CAN YOU DIG ITTTTTTTTTTTTT ?!?!
It's that university of phoenix MBA
Great role model. I only hear stories of pro athletes blowing their millions on houses, cars, childhood friends, and women, eventually retiring with busted knees and 0 savings. Kids who aspire to be pro athletes can now see that there are Exit Ops to pro sports, and that becoming a "baller" or "player" is not the only path in life.
He's an entrepreneurial ex athlete, it's a good start.
I'm wondering how this works for these guys usually, though. Did his agent get him involved in all of franchises? Would that be "part" of the job of an agent?
Jamal Mashburn: 37 Papa John's, 34 Outback Steakhouses, 3 Dunkin Donuts, Toyota dealership
Junior Bridgeman: 160 Wendy's, 118 Chili's
VERY random, how do you know about Junior? I actually may be meeting with how sometime soon.
Would this be something that is also done by PWMs?
Someone like Shaw needs to be in the rich, can you imagine this guy being poor? Not having customized shoes, rides, taking public transportation

Magic Johnson probably has the most successful post-NBA business career: - His holdco was reportedly worth $700MM in 2008. - Part owner of the Dodgers and LAFC, past owner of the Lakers. - Owned 125 Starbucks locations at one point.

When your that rich and famous believe me you won't have problems finding investment partners or opportunities. Your a walking target.

I am sure that's the case. I am also sure that he doesn't bother listening to everyone who approaches him. Hence, the questions is who is or who are the guys who advise them? In the Magic article above the author mentioned a guy by the name of Michael Ovitz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Ovitz) who appears to be a talent agent.
So if I understand that connection correctly, Sports Agent not only get to negotiate contracts for the Kobes & Shaqs of this world, but also advise them where they should invest when they retire? Sounds like a freaking dream job to me.
In the words of Chris Rock, Shaq is rich, the white man that signs his checks is wealthy.
Was that Chris Rock or Cedric the Entertainer?
Oh ya because being worth 300 million plus isn't considered wealthy.
still wondering why Shaq hasn't acquired a stake in a NBA team.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Joe Montana yet. Montana said in Sports Illustrated 10 years ago he's made more in investments than he did over the lifetime of his football career.
