I assume you have to give Piper an answer in the next couple of days? I would also say there is probably not much difference between the two, but if you have an exploding offer perhaps making Stifel aware of this would result in a speedier response from them? Are your offers for specific groups or generalist?

I've informed Stifel of my exploding offer (expires Friday), but still haven't heard from them. The offer's for a generalist role. Do you know anyone who interviewed with Stifel?

Best Response

Sorry, I don't. I can't be sure but I feel like if they really wanted you, Stifel would have gotten back to you after you informed them- when did you tell them?

Are you leaning either way? I assume that you might prefer Stifel given the fact that you're still waiting to hear back from them. If so, why do you prefer Stifel? As it was said above, unless you have a specific reason to go with them there's no real difference between the two.

Here's how it works.

You get a generalist offer, then during training you get interviewed by different group heads. They tell HR who they like, you tell HR what groups you want. HR then does their best to make everyone happy.

WAIT, you mean after the offer you interview with groups and they select who they want for their respective groups???

Come on now, working at a pretty good MM Firm, I have been through this process for group selection and all that jazz...

No. If you get group placement during training (i.e. before you start real work) then it is by nature NOT a generalist offer. Not having a group yet is not the same thing as being generalist.
