I have a feeling they promised her 10 or so years in prison, and at the end of the trial the final judgement will be death. Essentially,a 'do not fuck with us' type deal from Beijing. She's an extremely vain and overly-ambitious woman. There's a certain trait of sexism prevalent in the Chinese Communist Party... ever since they jailed Mao's mistress. I suppose, they feel they're less controllable.
