Gentlemen,
I'm starting my SA position in about a month, and need a nice tie to wear to client meetings (I'll be at a boutique so yes, I'll get to sit in on meetings with clients, and keep my monkey mouth shut.) Whats the difference between silk twill, heavy silk, and heavy twill? Which is the most traditional/classy/nice looking? I'm lost. Thanks.

Charvet, Hermes, Purple
Charvet, Hermes, Purple Label, Valentino, Versace.

I'm getting a hermes, but
I'm getting a hermes, but dont know which material I should get. Any thoughts on that?
I think silk twill is most
I think silk twill is most luxurious looking and offers the best colors. You shouldn't be worrying so much about the material as the label and how it actually looks. If it's made of dog shit do you really care as long as it's an amazing tie?

I'm wearing a TJ Maxx suit, tie, and shirts to my boutique SA stint. I think you'll be fine.

Can't believe you just verbalized that.

WINNER. First PBR's on me at the next WSO meetup.
But seriously, at least make sure the ties are silk and the suits are 100% wool.

I understand that but you can go to outlet stores that have cheap Calvin Klein suit's for 50% off. Being frugal doesn't mean being stupid. First impressions. Try googling outlets and see if there are any in your area.

The suit is 100% wool and the ties are silk, they're just not nicely branded. I think you and I are gonna get along just fine IP -- you love UChicago, PBR, cheap shit, etc. <3333

Yeah, TJ Maxx is where suit shopping starts to get a little sketchy. Jos. A Bank is fine. Men's Wearhouse is fine. Macy's is fine. Lord and Taylor is fine. Carson's/Boston Store/Bergner's is fine. JC Penney is fine, just watch for the 100% wool labels. Sears is ok if you're also careful. You can probably make TJ Maxx work if you know what you're doing, but most college kids don't.
For future reference, stick to JC Penney, find a 20% off coupon, and buy a 100% wool Stafford for 20% off $200.

Damn now y'all are making me
Damn now y'all are making me feel self-conscious. The suit is 100% wool, black, with very thin pinstripes. It at least fits me really well. Am I in for lulz when I start work next Monday?

Noooooooo. What is this? Who the hell can tell what kind of suit you are wearing? Just get the suit tailored. No one has any clue. You are an SA, not an MD.

Don't worry. If the dress
Don't worry. If the dress code is business formal, you're going to need another three suits this summer, and if it's really bad, you will not need to be walking around the office with the jacket on and most people tend to ignore your pants.
Just make sure you buy the next three suits at JC Penney, try to aim for at least one solid charcoal and one solid navy suit, 100% wool, Stafford brand is fine. Just look for the 100% wool tag on everything, and if you buy separates, make sure they are designed to match (and be smart and buy a second pair of pants if you have the money. The pants will wear out first.)
Work hard, play hard.
I wore a black 3-button suit
I wore a black 3-button suit with pleated pants and sketchers shoes with rubber soles to my summer analyst (consulting lol) interview last summer and got the job.
My current suits are charcoal and a navy Jos. A. Banks suits that were tailored to a 30-lb heavier version of me when I was still an athlete. I bought stretch fit Banana Republic dress shirts that I wore everyday this summer... This post isn't going anywhere but I thought I'd throw that out there to give everybody a kick. I wish I knew how to dress back when I compiled my "business wardrobe."
Nothing short of everything will really do.
