Trading the job for the brand
Hello Everyone,
I'm currently working in a corporate finance advisory role as an 1st-y analyst in NY, not M&A/restructuring though, for a top 10 european bank. I've been discussing with one of the world's preeminent advisory investment bank for a position as an analyst to the senior bankers and management. I would be helping internally to track and coordinate global deal activity. I'm very interested in the position, and would definitely enjoy working there.
However, since this is not a pure "i-banking" analyst role, I won't do any financial analysis, valuation, modelisation and other duties for which the analysts of the bank are well-known for.
To what extent can I eventually switch back to a corporate finance/financial analyst job ? To what extent can such an internal non-financial position help my career? Can it be a handicap if I were to move to PE or other i-banking financing and advisory position? Is it worth it to "sacrifice" the job duties that I have now for a much stronger name?
Thanks a lot for the insights and experiences if you have any to share.
Cheers
I would say don't chase the name and stick with where you are right now for the better experience.
