Travel for NYC/Boston Locations

I read on an outdated thread that consultants in areas such as New York and Boston travel less than usual in terms of flights, especially if they pick an industry relevant to the city (such as finance) compared to oil and gas (where you'd be flying to Houston and other oil hotspots a lot). Apparently this was true especially with Bain, but obviously it's ridicously hard to get an offer there.

Is this still the case? Do consultants in big east coast cities fly less places and stay more local?

except that a lot of o&g people are actually based in houston.

Exactly. Sorry if the first post wasn't so clear, but if you are part of a group that had a focus associated with the city (Houston and O> New York and finance) then do you not travel every week?

probably not, it makes sense that if you're doing financial consulting and live in NYC you won't travel so much. I know Oliver wyman guys don't travel a whole lot for instance. only thing you have to remember is that a lot of clients a firm is working with aren't near a big hub, so there will always be a need for road warriors.

My drinkin' problem left today, she packed up all her bags and walked away.

Yeh, there's some legitimate truth to that. If you are based out of a financial hub you are more likely to work out of that city early in your career. But ultimately you're still playing with fire so don't bank on it.

You could just as easily be stationed in NY or boston and have a project in Dallas or New Jersey.
