I just got a non-market-oriented job and will no longer have access to Bloomberg/FactSet/Thomson and won't be able to call up a company to get information.
What tools are there for a retail investor to maintain a watchlist, get news feeds on a stock, research fundamentals, etc? Having FactSet was a huge part of my research process, so I need to find a retail-level replacement. Transcripts are critical - I HATE listening to conferences calls (also a big reason I'm leaving sell-side).
As much as I hate SeekingAlpha, they have a pretty comprehensive earnings transcript offering. They make you create an account, so that sucks somewhat. Still, worth it.
macabacus has a dealmaven ripoff for macros.
Yahoo Finance. Oh and WRDS if that job is in academia.
Macabacus macros look nifty, but doesn't seem to have a place outside of churning out spreadsheets.
I have a Seeking Alpha account, the key is to not read the articles. There are a handful of smart people writing for SA, but most everything is garbage. I guess Yahoo Finance is probably the best web-based option.
