This is disgusting. Why can't people eat healthier and work out a couple of days a week? I don't want to pay even more taxes to fund lazy fatasses

This is the next logical step. Once Obama care rolls out this argument will become even more valid. Slowly moving down the road to total control.

Denmark has a fat tax (food high in saturated fat or something like that). Fat tax and sugar tax. Although, I don't know how I'd go without bacon...

HAHA! Definitely agree! But then again, I don't think our politicians would go for it. That'd be financial suicide for the majority of them ;)

I don't believe it's going to hit 75% that soon, if ever. And instead of a sugar tax, how about a tax credit for gym memberships or other physical activities? If we're going to make laws for "the greater good" why not propose less in taxes instead of more?

This is a great idea: encourage health.
In the U.S., the model is 'disease management' as opposed to "HEALTH PROMOTION" and it's not working AT ALL. Taxing one vice just leads people to find another, but the goal isn't the removal of such things - it's impossible, as a brief study of Prohibition shows. Better to encourage good habits instead, and if someone has a vice, then at least they're compensating with other good habits.
