Website Development

So, I'm starting my own web-based business with a few partners. We are currently putting the plan together, but we are all finance/business guys and need a technical guy. Our concept is relativley simple, but does need some solid development work. We've tried going to tech networking events, but with our current jobs & schedules (most of us in IBD) its very difficult to make them (don't want to leave just yet)....we have contemplated hiring a firm. Does anyone have any views on taking this route? I know it's better and cheaper to find a technical guy as a partner, but sometimes you don't always have that opportunity.......we've also contemplated using elance or hiring some developer in india for cheap, but I've had first hand experience working with one on a personal blog and it was a nightmare, they just didn't understand the concepts/style I was going for, which we feel an American firm would.......so any advice from anyone who has first hand experience or knows anyone I can maybe talk to to get advice...thanks
