Weekend MBA
I've been thinking about going to b-school. Other than the top programs, I'm weighing whether I should keep my current job and do weekend MBA. I know NYU, UChicago and Northwestern offer weekend MBAs.
I just wanted to hear your thoughts on these programs. Worth doing it? Or are these programs more tailored to more senior professionals? Recruiting out of these programs?
Thanks,
Do you want to stay at your firm, or are you looking to make a career transition? Would your firm be willing to sponsor you for a weekend MBA? We need more information before giving you advice on your situation.
1) I'm looking for career transition, but I was told weekend MBAs are treated the same manner as the full-timers, and get access to all campus recruiting.
2) Current firm won't sponsor MBA, but I don't mind paying myself.
The point about an MBA is immersion and making new friends. I don't think you can get that from a weekend program while juggling work. Make a choice!
jesus, at Booth and Kellogg, the part-time MBAs do get access to full-time on-campus recruiting (not internships) after 1 year. However, do not kid yourself that the part-time is equivalent to the full-time. Recruiters clearly know the difference since it's extremely easy to get into PT while Booth/Kellogg FT are quite selective; consequently, the signaling value of a PT MBA is extremely weak. Combine this with the lack of ocr for internships, and it becomes extremely difficult to make a career transition through PT.
I HIGHLY recommend that you apply to FT programs. For transitions, even an MBA from the likes of stern/Fuqua/darden/ross is better than PT MBA at Booth/Kellogg.
