no one knows?
is your personality to be honest, and even then it's not really software.
Investment bankers use Excel, FactSet, CapitalIQ, and sometimes VentureExpert from Thompsons. We don't really use Bloomberg as much as the advertisements make it sound. StreetAccounts is used by traders.
oh, thanks dragon!
Dude, you have to be kidding, Eviews??! Not in a million years.
hahaha.. imagine running some GARCH model or blowing people away with time varying betas...
I don't use Bloomberg daily, but do use it 2-3 times week on average. The main software I use is Excel, Powerpoint (probably now more than Excel as I am in pitch mode), CapIQ, Thomson, Factiva, and 10-k Wizard.
Factiva, mergermarket, banker thomson, bloomberg, factset, cap iq and other things that anyone has access to.
windows, internet explorer, outlook
i bet your answer is absolutely ture.
What software is used in IB? Excel, Bloomberg, MS project? (Originally Posted: 12/08/2010)
I'm wondering what programs they use in investment banking.
I'm in a undergrad ITEC class and hoping to get Excel and Powerpoint certification to leverage those skills on my CV. I'm sure financial modeling on Excel and Powerpoint is the bread and butter of ib but what other programs do they use?
Bloomberg Thompson One MS Access MS Project
Is it actually just a total waste of time and effort to get certified in these things and is just writing down you know Excel, etc enough for a CV?
I appreciate any help!
It is a total waste of time to get certified in these programs... By all means acclimate yourself with the functionality of each but bankers won't care if you are certified
So they use all of the aforementioned programs? Even Access and Project?
How important is Bloomberg in ib? I know it is the bread and butter of trading.
^not worth your time to get certified. probably just enough to write "proficient in excel, word and powerpoint."
not useful for the resume, but definitely worth your time for an internship: boost your keyboarding speed. projecting the perception of being faster than your peers is a huge way to stand out and already having some shortcuts under your belt/being able to type a bit quicker is a stupidly easy way to do this.
In IB bloomberg can also be used to trade and send confos.
