because some people just get an mba so they can get promoted or change careers... absolutely no reason to get a phd if you're just looking for a promotion that can be attained by getting an mba... as for msf... changing careers I'm guessing, or make up for crappy undergrad stats for recruting.... sooooo many reasons to get a masters over a phd.

I never understand the "CFA vs MBA", "MSF vs MBA", "MBA vs PhD", etc. threads that pop up here. We can discuss majors, like accounting, computer science, or history, in great detail, but these graduate degrees (or certifications) are completely different. It is like asking "Should I get a JD or an MD?" An MBA accomplishes something completely different an a PhD does.

Why I would want an MFE over a PhD: get into quant finance without having to spend so much damn time going for a PhD (if I recall correctly, it seems like MFE graduates are as marketable as PhD graduates in the finance field (when the PhDs aren't in quant finance)

please correct me if I'm wrong
