Rant: Why is HR so inept?
I got a call and it went like this:
me: Hello?
HR:Hi, is this *****?
me: Yes.
HR: I'm calling because you requested info about our internship program?
me: Yes, may I ask what firm you are?
HR: What do you mean?
me: Uh... the firm you work for?
HR: This is ***** (Bulge Bracket). (Says it in a very condescending voice).
me: Oh alright, yes I'm interested blah blah.
HR: (suddenly sounds rude) well our program is (describes time).
me: Alright, I was calling in regards to how to apply and such.
HR: Well I don't know... use our website (gives the generic dot com).
me: Alright thanks...
How the hell am I supposed to know the firms name when she didn't even tell me? I don't have that specific number saved, and she called from a different number with the four zeros at the end. So useless, said nothing but a website name (what a shock). Even had the nerve to speak to me in a condescending tone...
did you end up applying?
That's nothing bro.
Back in November, I started getting in touch with various HRs to see what they would be doing regarding SA interviews, as I was going to be studying abroad.
One particular HR girl I had emailed and called (left message) with this question never bothered to respond. I didn't want to appear pushy so did not keep leaving messages and sending emails.
Fast forward to January. I apply to this BB through my campus recruiting. Get selected for first-round on campus. Apparently no one read my resume or cover letter which explicitly state I am studying abroad. I email said HR girl to ask what I should do. She tells me she "wasn't aware" that I was abroad, and asks me to give up my interview spot so they can interview someone else.
I kindly remind here I had contacted her in January if they would be doing an early interview process or phone interviews. She tells me they did early interviews in December (Thanks for letting me know!) and cannot do phone interviews with me because I go to a target. Phone interviews at this firm are reserved only for those that go to non-targets. Apparently your physical location does not matter. No phone interview is possible. She does not acknowledge that I ever contacted her anticipating this very situation MONTHS in advance, and invites me to apply full-time.
Thanks a lot, HR.
Where are you studying?.. Did you interview banks before you went or not?
Ling~
Umm.. you contacted a firm asking how to apply? Are you serious? I would condescend to you also. Why would you ever ask a question (or fake a question if you were looking for an excuse to get in w/ someone at the firm) when the answer is 1.) Blatantly obvious to anyone interested in the industry, and 2.) Spelled out plainly and completely on the company's website?
Contacting firms with this type of inquiry just makes you appear incompetent.
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when (Originally Posted: 10/25/2012)
you think of HR.
I guess, all bankers hate HRs.
I have couple of free hours and pissed with an HR. So thought to ask fellow monkeys about their opinion of HRs.
PS: only abuses allowed, HR supporters find another thread
They are neither human nor resourceful.

you guys are being very polite and it is not even a Friday evening.
Please put some mean trashy words here :P

Is this like an HR person trolling? lol
Human fucking Remains
If you have spent any time on this site, you'd know that if you are on the outside of a bulge-bracket firm and don't go a target school, HR does not give a fuck about you. I hate HR just as much as anyone, but I can't believe you're surprised. If there are any surprises here, it's that she even called you back at all.
well...if the HR gave a detailed answer about how to apply to all those thousands of applicants, it would be a tougher job than IB. But i guess that one should have said where she was calling from. at least be more professional.
Just curious - did you previously contact the same person via phone or email? I have a hard time believing that, even some goof-ball in HR, would call you without any reason. At the very least I'd imagine they'd answer whatever question you had from your "initial interest".
