which one should I choose? IIT or hofstra?
I got admissions of those universities. IIT: MSF, great location, great professors. Somebody tells me that the courses are very practical. And the reputation of this program is great in Chicago. But too many people in this program (most are international students), maybe the quality of teaching will be damaged.
Hofstra: quantitative finance. Great location, good professors, small class size. Fantastic trading room (more than 30 Bloomberg terminals). But maybe it is not competitive enough among NYC. (You know, Baruch, Fordham, and nyu, too many good universities)
By the way, IIT is tier2 and hofstra is tier 3 in USNEWS. And my major is CS in undergraduate.
Please give some advices. It will be appreciative.
I think Hofstra is your best choice. Not only the location is perfect for you as Wall Street is in the neighborhood but also smaller class makes you study better with the whole concentration from your teacher. Not to mention maybe you have an awesome friend will come to Hofstra University with you. But that's all hypothesis. Let's hear some more smart advice from downstairs.
hofstra sucks. how do you expect to get onto wall street from a third tier masters?!
what has this board come to? better question, what in the world does someone with a quantitative fin degree from hofstra do after graduation?
Its geographical at this point. If you want Chicago, its IIT. If you want NYC its Hofstra. Your ability to find a job will be directly correlated to your aptitude in networking and finding internships.
When you get to tier 2/3 it doesn't matter. Companies aren't going to be falling all over themselves to hire you in either case so its on you to make what opportunities you want.
Just a note: actually academic quality rarely matters that much in terms of recruiting/finding a job.
Someone tells me that IIT's brand is better, is it right? THX
IIT = Chicago
Hofstra = NYC
Those are your choices. Neither is a guaranteed job.
