I've never worn a suit before, so sorry if this is a stupid question. The vents in the back are tied down by some white string, and I just want to make sure I cut them off before wearing it?

Yes, you cut those off.
Yes, you cut those off.
Work hard, play hard.

Seconded.
There have been many great comebacks throughout history. Jesus was dead but then came back as an all-powerful God-Zombie.

Thirded. Also make sure to cut off the label that some suits have on the sleeve of the jacket.
Also CUT don't rip them out. I tried to rip the label off a new jacket one time, when I was on my way to an event while wearing a jacket for the first time, and it left holes in the jacket because I did it kind of haphazardly. Fail on my part.
Hi, Eric Stratton, rush chairman, damn glad to meet you.
