Are you thick, a troll or just new to forums? The operative word is anonymity. People nowadays are just one Google search away and most people don't want what they post linked to them in the real world.
If someone went to a HYPS school, why would they be ashamed? I don't follow that logic at all. How much better can they do than that? It's pretty obvious that shame is not playing a significant role in most of these users' decision process.
Because it's really easy to find people on the internet. You don't even need to know someone's school, a lot of people use a similar username/tag across multiple websites
School name quickly lowers the probability to like 1 of 7 from 1 of 100. E.g. reading someone's post you may know that he is in JPM IB analyst class of 2012. He says he goes to Duke. That leaves only like 5-6 from 100 in the class. Then it's pretty easy to figure out.
Nah i'm not a troll, I guess you can just categorize me as new to forums. I guess I am just not very concerned with someone linking this profile back to me because I don't really post anything controversial, but I see why some would want to remain anonymous.
I read this website often but never really post, this was just my weak attempt at trying to get involved. Keep calm and carry on.

Because based on past posts, you can figure out the person's gender, year and possibly major. Those 3 things + their school can easily reveal them.

For confidentiality/anonymity in a public internet forum. Obviously not the same in real life.

Anonymity bro, you never know who's reading and if they'll connect the dots when they see your resume pop up.
Because we all learned from the same person: Jesus of Nazareth.
All kidding aside, I went to the South Harmon School of Technology. There you go.
