Bonus Bananas April 19, 2013

1) Barclays fat cat Rich Ricci retires at 49 just weeks after pocketing £18m shares windfall (Daily Mail) - This guy might be the most hated banker in the UK right now. Among his many sins, he flies a private jet to Ireland each weekend to watch his horses work out. Now everyone is screaming for him to give back all the money he made as Bob Diamond's right hand man.

2) Dan Loeb Gets $7 Million Break on Sandy Weill Yacht (CNBC) - Wow. That is one sick raft. Sandy Weill is scaling back his lifestyle and, let's face it, a 200' yacht is a bit excessive. But not if you're a hedgie!

3) Goldman Gives Blankfein $5 Million Long-Term Incentive (Bloomberg) - As much crap as I give Goldman Sachs and Lloyd Blankfein, they're really doing it right with this kind of incentive structure. Here's hoping this becomes the model all over the Street.

4) Wall Street analyst David Gray crossed Atlantic to harass former gal pal Daniela Rausnitz (NY Daily News) - This is why fishing off the company pier is always a bad idea.

5) Why I broke up with Kickstarter (Venture Beat) - Kickstarter is a great resource for raising money and they've had some amazing success stories, but you'd better know what you're getting into before you throw that million dollar idea up on the site.

6) How a First-Time Author Got a 7-Figure Book Deal (Four Hour Blog) - It was almost impossible to go anywhere on the Internet this week without seeing something about John Romaniello. His fitness tome, Engineering the Alpha, dropped on Tuesday and he was paid an unheard-of million dollar advance to produce it. Here's how he did it. (Note: I bought the book because of all the hype, and so far it's actually really good.)

7) The Human Body As You Know It Is Over (Business Insider) - When you think about it this makes complete sense: technology has shaped human evolution from the beginning. It'll be interesting to see how natural selection deals with Google Glass.

8) Moore’s Law and the Origin of Life (MIT Technology Review) - Okay, I just threw this one in there to screw with your head. Could life on Earth be older than...well...Earth?

9) How to Become Internet Famous for $68 (Mashable) - It's scary how easy it is to pull a scam on the Internet and make it look legit if you know what you're doing. This guy created a famous person from whole cloth and this is how he did it.

10) America's Drunkest Writer (Daily Beast) - With The Great Gatsby set to hit theaters in about a month, I thought I'd post this essay on the life and unfortunate death of F. Scott Fitzgerald - a great American writer who lost a much ballyhooed battle with the bottle.

Video of the Week:

Comic books were a huge part of my life growing up, so I'm naturally a big fan of all the superhero movies over the years. That said, Marvel has absolutely blown the doors off DC in the movie theaters. With the exception of the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, everything to come out of DC has pretty much sucked. Until now, apparently. I was not very optimistic about a Superman reboot until I saw this. Now I can't wait till it comes out. Plus, Michael Shannon as General Zod is absolutely brilliant casting. I think they've got a hit on their hands with this one. Go FULL SCREEN:

That's it for this week, stallions. Have a magnificent weekend and let me know what you think about this week's Bananas in the comments.

P.S. It took all I had in me not to run this as Video of the Week:

That original girl's video got pulled I guess, but here's a vid, scroll to about 2:30.

I don't usually like to sound like an old man but seriously, America's youth today has issues.

My drinkin' problem left today, she packed up all her bags and walked away.

Blame the Internet.

...he said he was selling April Fool because his grandkids had grown up and weren't using it as much for family vacations.

Yeah, fuck that, who wants to vacation/party on a big ass Yacht.

Edmundo Braverman:
Was wondering that myself. He claims to be "downsizing". Not trying to be creepy, but it sounds like he's preparing for the dirt nap.
I guess, he just struck me as the type who's going to try to take it with him
