Rocketblocks.me Thoughts?
I saw that this site was recently launched, and it's been advertised via the founder on WSO. So I was curious what other prospective MC monkeys thought about this?
Price: $45/year
Includes: (copied from the site)
Context - Watch video interviews with former and current consultants discussing every aspect of the case interview process
Mental math - Sharpen mental math skills through 6 sub-modules that drill students on the exact types of math questions that arise in cases
Structuring - Break down case questions, draw structures and compare them to suggested answers from actual consultants
Charts & data analysis - Improve analytical ability by charts, graphs and data displays and pulling out key insights
Brainstorming - Hone brainstorming skills by responding to particular case prompts that require idea generation
Notes - Track feedback, recruiting contacts, general notes and deadlines to stay on top of your game
So far, the blog itself proves to have interesting points, but nothing I haven't heard of before. Think it's a good purchase? Any thoughts on this?
certainly looks very interesting... thanks for sharing it... and its cheap... like really cheap
for $45 its definitely worth looking at
What's up guys/gals
Just purchased the membership a couple days ago.
At first sight, looks good: clean, organized, and I like the news feed it has from the major firms.
I'll keep this post updated on my experiences later.
Cheers
atta boy SunTzu... take one for the team...
wow, thanks for posting this - I've actually worked with 2 out of the 3 founders back when they were at Google. Surprised to randomly run across this haha. I'm sure this is a high quality site if its by them
Rocketblocks is actually pretty good... They're structure practice is very interesting because they come up with a completely new structure every time.
Great content; the math practce is very helpful, especially with the market math
cons: on the math practice, the system sometimes tells you your answer was incorrect, even though it was correct. Also, sometimes the frameworks dont match up with the case provided.
All the cons seem like they can easily be bugged out.
Conclusion- I would recommend. The $45 is easily worth it.
Thanks for all the comments & support.
SunTzu - If you ever run across a framework that doesn't match the question, please feel free to take a screenshot and send it to [email protected] That definitely should not be happening.
If any of you have questions in the future, please don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
Best, Kenton (Founder, RocketBlocks.me)
Thanks SunTzu +1 SB to you for letting us know!
I bought the subscription in the middle of last semester and I've used it quite a bit since then. I faintly remember it being a little cheaper then, but I might be wrong. Some thoughts on particular sections:
Context - Not very helpful. Most of it is common sense and includes the kind of stuff you can find here on WSO, but I guess it might be somewhat useful for anyone just starting out. The videos seem to be on random sub-topics though.
Mental math - Moderately helpful, but there are better sites and programs/apps out there to practice your mental math. The main positive is that they focus on case interview-related math, e.g. working with percentages. Overall, I haven't been using this as my main mental math-prep tool.
Structure - Absolutely wonderful. This and the "Charts" section contain the bulk of this website's value. I got a lot of practice drawing out frameworks. It gives you a case question, gives you the option to enter it in online (personally, I just write it out on paper), then you can view suggested answers/frameworks.
Charts - Lots of practice analyzing charts. Really useful for this specific task, but I don't know how big of a role charts will play in case interviews (perhaps except for with BCG interviews, which are known to sometimes involve charts/tables), so I haven't done too many, but they're almost fun to do even. For what it's worth, after using this section, getting handed figures/charts/graphs during practice interviews no longer make me nervous.
Brainstorming - Similar to the "Structure" segment, but to practice estimation/back-of-the-envelope questions. I never really had a trouble with estimation questions, so I haven't used this portion at all.
Notes - I appreciate their effort in trying to consolidate all your application and prep materials, but the switching costs of learning how to use this section is too high for just one recruiting season, given that there probably isn't much marginal value over the traditional methods. I've stuck to my traditional Excel/Calendar/stack of business cards/paper+pen for organizing all my information.
Overall: The Context and Charts section make it worth the price. The other sections (except maybe the Math section) add little value on top of that though. A 3-part combo of Case in Point + Live Practice + Rocketblocks has felt sufficient for me (though we'll see in the coming weeks whether or not that is true).
