Floridian Hedge Funds?
I'm not expecting it to be like NY or CT, but there is a fair amount of old money, lawyers, and gold digging whores. My anecdotal evidence makes me think there is probably some density in Fort Lauderdale/Miami/West Palm. However, I'm wondering if anyone else has a better idea of what it's like down there.
Funny you should ask that. Just interviewed for a Private Bank spot down there, and told a friend at another BB private bank (Big-wig, just below CIO of private bank) about it. Told him it was in that area, and his face soured like he drank a shot of that bottled lemon juice.... Anyway, he told me to make sure I had an exit strategy if I did the program there.
Are you looking to HFs for exit opps in the area? Are you local? Certainly you're not looking to move there just for HFs, right?
I have some family down there, but not a local. The state I'm in has not seen the sun for months and it's starting to wear on me. I've been looking a lot more at Florida, Houston, California, basically any place that has green grass and doesn't require I start up my car for 45 minutes before I can move.
So to directly answer your questions, not for exit opps, not a local, not looking to move there specifically for HFs, just looking to head someplace warm(er).
There is a ton of stuff in West Palm, Ft. Lauderdale, Boca, and Miami. What are you looking for FT or SA? I was able to get a few interviews for winter internships last year from cold calling.
SA for now with potential hopes of going FT. If you have a list of places I could call, or know of any sites other than looking for funds on LinkedIn that would be nice. I'm particularly interested in global strategies whether it's with equity, fixed income, macro trends, but I don't have a lot of room to be selective here so I'm not about to pick and choose.
PM me your email and I'll see if I can help you out
Sent you a PM
I've been asked for the list by a few people so I'm just going to post it on here so everyone can see it.
It is not primarily focused on hedge funds, but more so on AM/PE/S&T between West Palm and Miami. Some of the firms on the list suck and are places I would never want to work, while there are some PE firms that are top of the line - you'll have to sort through and figure out what you want. Last year I talked to every single one of these firms and can tell you that none have a formal internship program so you're going to have to be pretty sharp talk your way into getting an interview. Good luck
