I honestly don't think it's the hours that make analysts look like crap, it is the lifestyle

SO, I have been observing my fellow analysts and I htink that I have come to the conclusion that the reason a lot of them look 30 after 2 years is not the hours, and maybe not even the pressure, but it is the lifestyle. After a week of intensive work, a lot of people do not just settle in for a quiet night at home, but instead choose to go out and get fucking wasted 2-3 nights in a row, staying out till like 4 am and then being hung over for the whole morning.
Now, I have been through college and was in a fraternity and I know that people who got trashed 7 days a week, looked a lot more aged and beaten than those who studied in the library till 4 am every night of the week. I do think that if you are a banker, who gets drunk to relax on a regular basis, the analyst stint will take its toll on your appearance a lot more than on an analyst, who likes to have a good time, every now and then, but generally prefers a quiet night in. maybe, he will look 27 at the end of the 2 year stint and not 30. Your thoughts?

i think the hours do matter. i am 23 and have a lot of white hair, and i can assure you it's not from partying.

This could be true but you have to respect the fact that this behavior is at least partially caused by the hours and pressure of wokring in IB.

but that's part of the game - you go out and party b/c that's the lifestyle what with all the business dinners and lunches and shit like that.

What are you gonna do, show up at 11 at your apartment and fall asleep on a pile of cash? That's no fun.

When you are dead tired, that is the most fun thing in the world.

That said, get punk in drublic and party like it's 2006.
