iPhone & Banking
While I understand that banks pay for your company phone and blackberry service, even if you purchase a new blackberry on your own. However, with the upcoming iPhone release, would it be possible to get the bank to pay for that service?
Who might I contact for this information? IT, HR?
Seriously, are you going to pull that out in front of a client?
lol... only if your client is Apple
No bank will allow you to use the iPhone. It doesn't even allow a link-up to Microsoft Exchange servers or receive Blackberry emails. Also, try typing lengthy emails on a touchscreen screen. You'll have fingerprints everywhere.
i agree, no QWERTY keyboard
any word on what blackberry model 2007 analysts are getting?
I got an 8800.
Did you buy that yourself and the company reimburse you or did they give that to all analysts?
I thought 8700 was going to be the norm. What bank if you don't mind?
The Iphone doesn't really work for a business environment, from what I've read.
Indeed, mainly thanks to underlying technology being 5 years behind everything else. I mean 2G at 40kbps vs 3.5G at 1.8mbs on my N95? No voice dialling, no firewall, no memory slot, no picture messaging, and they want to charge a premium price! They better hope there are enough losers who have wet dreams about products simply because they are Apple or this will be a bomb.
Reading your post has singlehandedly convinced me that the iPhone is not going to be the "breakthrough" or "prodigy" tech-savvy columnists at major publications (who have actually held it in their hands) have claimed. In fact, I'm so impressed by your research and reported findings into the iPhone's disabling weaknesses that I'm sure not only that it will suck (or as you so eloquently put it, "be a bomb") but that Apple will tank and Steve Jobs will end up homeless in the shelter outside my apartment (no less than he deserves).
Thank you so much for your valuable insights.
the only help you may get is will be in the form of a corporate discount at the at&t or apple store. most corps have these discount programs. no way they will buy this for you, sorry brotha. and it will be a long long time before corporations will even consider the thought of using the iphone as a blackberry replacement.
I am holding off on comments concerning the iPhone until I actually see and touch the device. Also, not all banks use Microsoft Exchange.
You want to get in touch with IT. What I was told is they are not going to bother with all the 'security' issues, so forget replacing your blackberry.
yeah i just shorted the shit out of AAPL...lets see what happens
outright or via options?
hope you have a good long book...aapl is a lot more than the iphone
good call pezz...I would too if I could...
EDIT: this is also what I said a few months ago to an interviewer in equity sales (for a position I did not land). The guy thought I was crazy, so lets see if we can show him up...
I would go long Apple in an instant...
Shorting Apple is like if you would have shorted Google after it blew past 250...when people said it was unsustainable.
I've read a ton of reviews, and don't recall anything along the lines of "prodigy."
Most said it was a good phone with some shortcomings.
If I used my personal phone more often, I would consider picking one up. I don't.

i shorted apple (outright) because i think 10-20% of their current stock price is iphone hype...i think they will do well in the long run but not at the moment because there is just too much expectations to live up to
how's that short doing?
They guy asked if it was feasable to have a fucking iPhone in the banking environment.
So:
Will the bank you are working at pay the plan assuming you are using it as a corp cell phone.
If so, then maybe you can buy the iPhone (with your own cash since no bank pays for the phone, only the plan) and the bank will pay for it.
Answer the question next time. Seriously, stop pussy footing around. What is the answer? I know my bank pays for anything considered "used for business" i.e. you use your cell for busness you expense it...however the iPhone is a little diff with its hype...maybe he banks won't pay for it.
Does anyone, with a well informed knowledge know what the deal is.
Thanks.
a guy here got the iphone, holy crap it is amazing. i may have to go buy one.
I saw it at the store last week and it's hot shit. It does everything, from internet to phone to organizer. I don't know how it syncs up with Windows (and I'm not a tech geek) but I can't imagine that it would be any harder to make work on a PC than in iPod.
I am going to buy one as soon as it comes out in the UK. It's too delicious for words.
THe Iphone sold 500K units its first weekend, any questions?
Actually, they only sold 146,000 units according to AT&T and their results released today.
Shares down 2% pre-trade. Goodnight charlie.
200k
Apple is smart, but the iphone has a lot of drawbacks. After the initial craze wears off, I think sales will fall a lot.
4% move isn't a big deal
Did you guys cover yet?
Here's hopin this won't be "yet another example of why amateurs shouldn't be short selling or day trading" AAPL is so overanalyzed there's no way you can get an information advantage...mutual funds are eating this stuff up, should NEVER short a stock like this..
man, it feels SO GOOD to be right!
Thank god you're not managing my money.
An analyst report is already showing a sales slowdown. It's marred with glitches, nowhere near as good as the N95 and 600 dollars with a shiit contract as opposed to free for the N95.
Short. It will get ugly.
AAPL up another 50% since then....REALLY hope you covered...
two weeks does not an invesmtent thesis make. i have no position in aapl btw.
ouch. AAPL getting smacked around. Buying opp for the longs me thinks.
good call :)
We dont use iphone
I love my iphone! Its really pretty!
Well besides that, the wifi pickup is really nice, and the ipod functionality makes the price a bit more justifiable. What’s nice for a banker (although clearly other phones can do this) is that it can pick up your gmail, which many banks have blocked.
Mostly its just a toy. But its a pretty toy!
