Internship 2012
I'm going to apply for the summer internship programmes at London banks next year and I'm wondering is there anything I could do now to improve my chances?
I'm two years out of college...working for Big 4 audit. I will have all my accountancy exams passed by then, I have a 2.1 degree in economics from a semi-target school in Ireland (2.1. is solid, not outstanding and the uni would be in the top two in Ireland) and I have decent extra currics (marathons/treasurer/set up club).
I also have an internship in corporate banking from a domestic bank.
Based on that brief outline do people think I would have a decent shot at getting an IBD position on an internship programme?
Going by the above are their any key areas people would advise I should work on? Basically what should I be doing between now and the end of the year to make me more attractive to employers?
you are out of uni for 2 years already? unless you are starting a masters its gonna be almost impossible to get into a regular SA programme. You should look at smaller places, off-cycle or leverage some of your contacts you might have made during your time at a big 4. I think you have to depend mostly on networking since most of the screening will have your resume tossed out if you apply for an internship. Is there any way you can use a headhunter to lateral for example?
