Renting in the Tenderloin in SF

Hey guys, I got an internship at an investment bank in San Francisco, and I need to find a place to stay for the summer. I found a cheap-ish place to rent in the Tenderloin, but I've heard that the Tenderloin isn't the a very good part of SF. Any advice from people who live/have lived in the area?

I strongly suggest you DON'T live in or anywhere near the Tenderloin. I've grown up an hour away from SF, and it's a really sketchy part of town that I would absolutely never step foot in. Last year, a summer analyst in my office rented a place in the Tenderloin for the same reasons you are thinking of doing so, and one night, on his way back to his apartment after work, he said a bunch of drug dealers circled him, asking if he wanted to buy drugs from them.
