Renting in the Tenderloin in SF
Hey guys, I got an internship at an investment bank in San Francisco, and I need to find a place to stay for the summer. I found a cheap-ish place to rent in the Tenderloin, but I've heard that the Tenderloin isn't the a very good part of SF. Any advice from people who live/have lived in the area?
Always looking on the bright side of things:
While I would not live in the Tenderloin, it is very close to work if you work in FiDi.
Seriously....don't do it. Especially if you're going to work early and coming back late at night. There are plenty of places in Nob Hill, Telegraph Hill, and Russian Hill that are affordable.
I strongly suggest you DON'T live in or anywhere near the Tenderloin. I've grown up an hour away from SF, and it's a really sketchy part of town that I would absolutely never step foot in. Last year, a summer analyst in my office rented a place in the Tenderloin for the same reasons you are thinking of doing so, and one night, on his way back to his apartment after work, he said a bunch of drug dealers circled him, asking if he wanted to buy drugs from them.
