Good Idea or Neeh?

So since recruiters are dog shit, sorry for insulting people with dogs, I was thinking of taking this to the next step. In an effort to reach out on my own to PE funds, with contacts I have, as a lateral I was thinking of sending more than just a resume and cover email... I wanted to prepare a short 7-10 page phase 1 and model on a public company of my choice, all hypothetical buyouts, and send that along as well. I know they ask you to do their case studies anyway, but just looking for some things I can attach to an email to show a litle extra effort and make myself standout against IBD analysts trying to get in at the same time...

What do you guys think the reaction to this may be on the other end of the email? Is it worth the 1+ day to compile the model and memo for something like that?

Thanks,
mezzket

No, I can get in touch with them easily, but due to the large FoF activity my firm has, they know everyone, so wanted to use recruiters to avoid direct contact and having word come back to them... But these guys blow giant monkey c*ck and can't bring any good ideas out of recruiting season... So I'm looking to make this quick ie make sure I don't prolong an interview process more than I have to or risk a rejection via email and have word come bak to my firm... Just trying to maximize chances and minimize the getting canned risk...

MezzKet, agreed on recruiters. Think I'm in a similar situation in that I went to a mid size (~$9bn) PE/HF right out of undergrad and never did banking. They don't seem to be able to get their mind around how to sell a non-two year ibank analyst to other PE shops. Things are going well enough here now that I just gave up on them and decided to stay here until MBA or something.

Finally, someone who gets it... They are braindead when it comes to understanding what I do andhow I'm actually better as a PE candidate than an ibd monkey... They can't see how or why... Definitely wanna do the MBa thing but I need extracurriculars for a year or two before applying for a good program and I'm not staying here that l long, no way!!

Thanks for the feedback jbs, good to know it would be taken positively. All I'm trying to do is get my shot, especiLly since there is such a great pool of talent out there right now, from analysts to post MBAs...

MezzKet could you provide some background info/stats (bank, industry, UG)?

As someone with absolutely no experience on the matter, i didn't know the IBD analyst --> PE transition was that difficult. Is it just the current market? And is it usually cause for firing if word gets back to your bank that you're recruiting? Don't PE shops ask around for references, or is that just left to the headhunter? Are you using a headhunter?
