Canadian Senior Resume
First of all - I have posted my resume a few times on here and have received great responses. Nice to see people passing on their knowledge and helping others in such a competitive environment.
So...
I am a senior at a Canadian non-target completing a B.Comm Accounting and Finance program. I have a brutal GPA. Went through some family things my first two years at school and it was difficult to get back on track academically. I am confident that I can get solid grades this coming year. My relevant experience is listed on my resume and I am hoping to do the following things this year to increase my chances:
1) I have interviewed and am 95% sure I will receive an offer for a part-time position with a local boutique. They are a satellite office for their main location in London. They have 3 revenue sources - Sales & Trading, Investment Banking, Research. Their clients are primarily European hedge funds. A position here would give me the necessary exposure I need to the IB industry that I have yet to gain.
2) Two other students and I are in the process of creating a business plan and partnering with my school's Finance society to create a Student Managed Fund. My school has a relatively large endowment and I think we have a good chance of getting this going.
My short term career goal is to receive a SA IBD position in Toronto for 2012, and then secure a FT position early 2013.
I appreciate any comments towards my resume, as well as any tips/things I should do to improve my chances.
In before anyone says : "Fluent in English" = Auto Ding
Thanks - I'll remove it.
Sorry to hear about your family issues. How was your 3rd year GPA? Most Canadian grad schools only look at your 3rd + 4th year GPA so you might want to consider that.
Assuming you are going to the school I think you are going it'll be tough. Network hard!
I hope for your sake that you're not going to Ryerson. If you are, you're going to have to network really hard.
For the financial analyst position - did you have any metrics you can add to your improvements?
I think overall your resume looks pretty good, I would make some formatting changes putting dates on the left side with the entry in the middle and the location on the right, but that's just me. With respect to Canadian IB, I actually went through last year's Sept. recruiting round (came up empty and did a masters instead) and helped out a few Juniors land SA interviews, anyways here are some pointers.
P.S. I come from a non-target school out east so I feel your pain
Thanks for the responses everyone.
I am lucky to have some really good connections (Senior Directors, BB CFO) and solid references. I'm hoping to leverage these for SA recruiting this season.
My GPA is sitting at around a 3.1 right now. I am confident I can get two semesters of 3.8+ and am thinking of taking some additional courses afterwards just to bump it up further.
