Villanova MSF Vs John Hopkins MSF
I got accepted into the MSF program at John Hopkins and also received full scholarship. I have also received a fellowship at Villanova which provides tuition remission and will allow me work on the research being conducted by the faculty. What are the pros and cons related to both programs? I am looking to get into Equity Research after graduation.
Cons JHU: The program is not as good as Villanova. Pros Villanova: The program is better than JHU
Hope this helps.
Thank you Esuric, could you give me the details to why you think so?
Baltimore is a completely dead city with almost nothing going on. I'm there every weekend and it's hell. JHU's business school is brand new, has next to no network and, as far as I can tell, the MSF program is just a cash cow, exploiting internationals that wan't to buy the brand name.
Villanova is a well-regarded school with an established MSF program. Year after year it has consistent placements which are pretty good. There are a good amount of Villanova MSF alums and, from what I hear, they're fairly helpful.
^^You sound like such a dramatic baby. Baltimore isn't bad, I've had many good times in Canton and Fed Hill. Population wise Baltimore = Boston. So no, it's not a dead city (Tulsa) and it's not hell (North Korea).
OP, Nova is a waaaay better program. No brainer decision.
I'm really not qualified to advise on this (I'm attending MSF in the fall), but I want to try to participate in the discussion so... I would say most people will tell you that it's a completely easy decision viz. Villanova being a much better developed program, better outcomes historically on employment, good alumni representation, good career services, good organization of the curriculum, etc. etc.. Hands down Villanova over JHU. JHU seems to be a program with limited information surrounding it viz placements in particular, and while I'm sure it's fine, I don't think it compares.
Furthermore, your decision is even easier since I believe the Fellowship at Villanova is both quite difficult to get, a very good value, and quite prestigious.
I would say the decision of taking your Villanova w/ Fellowship is absolutely an easy choice (this assumes there are not complicating factors - e.g. other schools you're looking at).
Just my take on having read around these programs so extensively at this point.
I think everything that needs to be said has been said already. The fellowship is just icing on the cake. I like JHU and think they are trying to do good things there, but right now Villanova wins hands down.
Can you please provide your application profile? I am looking to get into IB.
