Interested in S&T, apply full-time or go to grad school?

Hey guys. This is my first post here. I just want to seek some genuine advice. Some background about me: junior, international student, applied math + Econ, CS minor, at a non-target top 10 national university (pretty easy to tell which one). Very interested in BB S&T, particularly FICC trading, but also interested in prop trading and AM/HF. Our school has a pretty terrible career center (a career coach said my resume was good, but an alumnus said it was quite shitty), small representation on the Street, and there are very few good local firms that offer internship opportunities. Although pretty a small group, our alumni are very eager to help us out, but I have to admit I didn't put in much effort in networking.

I just had a disastrous SA recruiting season. Only got two interviews from two BB's, didn't even get a superday despite that I believe I have done exceptionally well in one. While I'm still applying for internships in AM and HF, I'm beginning to consider beyond this recruiting season. First path is to apply for full-time positions next summer. I'm sure I'll put in more effort in networking and preparing for interviews, but I'm just concerned about the number of opportunities available to full-time applicants and the competition. If it's nearly impossible to get into BB as a full-time S&T analyst, I'd rather spend the time on academics and get into a good graduate school. This brings me to the second path. I'm also hesitant between a PhD or a master's program. For PhD, it's definitely harder to get into directly out of undergrad, but for master's, there are very few good master's programs. I want to go to a program at HYPSM or UChicago. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get in any of them for undergrad, so I kinda want to fulfill a dream there. Some programs I'm considering are Masters in Finance (Princeton, MIT), Financial math (UChicago), masters in applied math or statistics, and also PhD in econ, applied math, or statistics. My question then is, do BB S&T really hire masters students in Finance, financial math, applied math or statistics? Are they at a disadvantage (even harder to get in than full-time)? Are they treated like undergrad analysts or do they start at a higher level? I know if I decided to do a PhD, it's a totally different career path, so I'm just asking about the master's programs.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I work in S&T at a BB and we do actively recruit students who have a master in finance, financial engineering etc... (essentially anything with maths + finance). The easiest time to get into the industry is as an analyst either from undergrad or from masters. If you cannot get directly into S&T I would seriously consider investment, trading or even research roles in AM and HF.

I think any opportunity in finance especially in the front office is tough but I would really focus on networking. I lateral from PB to S&T at a different BB after working for a short time. PM if you any specific questions.
