Allstate investments

ST2008's picture

So, it turns out that Allstate has a hedge fund group which holds about $153 Billions of assets. I have never seen any topic mentioning Allstate at all.
So, do you know anything about them? do they have an internship program? Is it comparable to other hedge funds and BBs?

Thanks

I believe $153 billion is

I believe $153 billion is the value of total assets for Allstate. This is how insurance companies work, profitability is driven by earning returns on the float (i.e., capital provided by collecting frequent payments while paying out on less frequent claims).

Someone with more expertise could weigh in, but I'm pretty sure it's not at all comparable to a typical HF.

thx for your insight. What

thx for your insight. What about their SAs and FTs, how much are they paid and what's their culture like.

Thanks

Insuriance companies are

Insuriance companies are typically very conservative (i.e. boring) in their investments, lots of fixed income. Salaries are low compared to BB IMD or hedge funds.

Also a number of BBs have been trying to poach assets from insuriance firms (i.e. outsource the investing). From what I understand they've been quite successful.
