Am I being unethical?
I am a recent grad and have accepted an offer from a consulting firm starting around September. Due to getting a late start on recruiting last fall (change in career goals), this firm is the only one that I applied to on time, and I somehow got the offer.
Recently I have been in touch with a recruiter from MBB who is interested in my resume/background and would like to talk further. Would it be unethical to pursue this opportunity and, if I do get an offer, would it be unethical to switch companies so soon (if I even have started by then)?
The relationship I have had with my company thus far has made me feel that they would drop me in an instant if it were more profitable to them so I feel inclined to do what is in my best interest. What do you think?
Absolutely pursue the MBB opportunity.
Unethical? Yes. But who cares. This could completely change your career trajectory. Worth the slight mental discomfort.
How's that unethical? Don't broadcast it though, good luck!
Pursue the MBB opportunity. You don't really owe the firm anything and it would not be unethical to leave for an opportunity that better aligns with your goals.
It's only unethical if you don't believe in at-will employment. If you're on this board, you probably do. Even if you don't, the company sure as hell does. Go for it, just don't be a jerk about it.
