eriginalReally? Try thinking for yourself on a regular basis; I promise, it gets easier.

This is not a very useful skill in banking. He is actually setting a great precedent by letting other people dictate every aspect of his thought process. You will come in as soft puddy and they will mold you into a brilliant yes man yet... Goooood.... Goooood

This isnt terribly difficult if youve built one before.

Some things you could say: -it's like a puzzle, but at a company level -its a framework to analyze a co., and you can see how certain factors drive the operations and valuations of a firm

-it's an opportunity to show-off your excel short-cut skills to impress the sexy female staffer in you group ;)

Cheers.

ChicagoIBDIt's not about the model - it's about the company and getting your head around it so you can develop a strong model.

Nerd alert: I do enjoy modeling a great deal, primarily for this very reason.

I like being able to take what someone tells me about their company or business and piecing it together into a logical financial analysis. Not everything about the company story can be expressed in a model, but I find that a truly robust model captures about 95% of what is said or written about the business.

Do interviewers normally ask this out of nowhere? Do they only ask you this if u had indicated you do enjoy modeling, or do they just assume u do and then ask u?

It's not out of nowhere. I've been asked if I enjoy readig 10-Ks before...damned if I did; damned if I didnt. It sucked.
